We offer a seal kit / repair kit for the top hydraulic cylinder 99656104501 used in Porsche 996 models.
The issue: A lot of Porsche convertible owners are aware of the well known problem: After a while the hydraulic cylinders responsible for opening and closing the soft top start leaking and do not work properly anymore. The leak occurs when the installed o-rings, rod seals and piston seals wear out to a point that they are not able to withstand the pressure inside the hydraulic cylinder anymore. This is especially noticeable during the summer in warmer regions since the original materials are limited in terms of temperature resistance.
What others offer: Most competitors source cheap Polyurethane rod seals (usually green or blue) from China, most of which are of lower quality than the original rod seals which were already limited in terms of service life and heat resistance.
Our solution: We wanted more than just a simple and cheap replacement but a solution that incorporated unparalleled longevity and durability. Therefore we developed rod seals made from the high-tech material High-Performance Polyurethane (HPU, red color). HPU combines excellent mechanical properties with high chemical resistance, exceeding those of standard Polyurethane. It also has a greater temperature resistance (from -40°C/-40°F to +115°C/+239°F) and is therefore the preferred material for vehicles in warmer regions. The rod seals and piston seals are CNC-milled to our specifications within tolerance class DIN ISO 2768-1-f (fine) in Germany to ensure a high level of accuracy.
Seal types: A Porsche 996 hydraulic cylinder contains two rod seals, two o-rings and a two-piece piston seal. If the hydraulic cylinder is leaking, you'll need to replace the rod seals and the o-rings. If the hydraulic cylinder is not able to open and close the soft top properly anymore, you'll need to replace the piston seal.
Attention: Although the seals we offer have a high temperature range, they may only be used with the following types of hydraulic fluid to ensure smooth operation and a long service life:
- Genuine Porsche hydraulic fluid (part number 000-043-305-50), hydraulic fluids in accordance with standard DIN 51 524, HLP 32 or standard ISO 11158, HM 32
